The Faithfulness of Seasons
Can you believe we’re in spring already?
After the cold and wet winter of Cape Town, my being has been ready for spring. If I were a shedding animal, I would have shed.
But I found something in me that was so desperate for the horizon, the rays, the light.
And just like that, spring was upon us.
I am in awe and marvel at the faithfulness of the season.
In Southern Africa, September brings spring. We anticipate the first of the month. With great, certain expectation, we declare the first of September as spring day.
We are certain of flowers blooming, the sun shining—all of it.
And as sure as a new day, spring comes.
The birds sing a different song. The vibrancy changes. Spring has sprung.
No more dark and gloomy nights. More outside time. More open doors. Shorts, ocean and longer days.
And then I began to wonder…
As certain as changing seasons, and as faithful as time is to change, so is change in our own lives.
We can learn so much from nature.
If seasons are faithful to change, why do we think we will stay the same?
I have been grappling with some discomfort in myself, not quite sure what it represents. Perhaps it is representing a new season in my life.
And it made me wonder:
What does your crisis represent?
In my line of work, I see many people in crisis. Instead of immediately crying or losing hope, can we sometimes welcome crisis as the herald of the end of one season and the beginning of another?
When things feel like they are changing in your mind, instead of judging yourself, perhaps become curious.
What does this season represent in my life right now?
Ask the Maker of new seasons:
What does this season mean?
What posture should I take?
And believe that an answer will come.
Happy Spring Month🌻
Warm Greetings
